BULLPEN UPDATES

Chicago Cubs

The Cubs have struggled to win games early in 2019, which led to slow production in save chances. Pedro Strop picked up his first save over the last week while extending his scoreless streak to four innings with one hit and three Ks. Brandon Morrow worked to his way to the mound in extended spring training, which puts him a couple of weeks away from the majors.

Miami Marlins

For the Fantasy owners than placed their bets on Sergio Romo as the closer for Miami, they continue to wait for any return on their investment. Over the last week, he allowed two runs, seven baserunners, and one home run over three innings. Romo only has one save on the year with a 9.00 ERA and 1.83 WHIP. Drew Steckenrider served up four HRs over his last six innings pushing his ERA to 7.88 despite a low WHIP (0.88). Tayron Guerrero hasn’t allowed a run over 7.2 innings with three hits and nine Ks, but he did issue five walks. Nick Anderson may emerge as the closer based on his recent success (one run over 7.1 innings with two walks and 16 Ks).

Philadelphia Phillies

Fantasy owners threw a dart at Hector Neris two weeks ago in the high-stakes market. They may be rewarded going forward for saves with David Robertson landing on the DL. Neris looked sharp after tossing 5.1 shutout innings with one hit, eight Ks, and one save over his last six games. Seranthony Dominguez pitched better in his previous three outings (no runs over 3.2 innings with five Ks) to remain in the mix for the 9th inning job.

Tampa Bay Rays

The Rays have two viable closing options in 2019 with both players starting the season well. Jose Alvarado hasn’t allowed a run over 8.1 innings with 13 Ks and four successful save chances. Diego Castilla extended shutout string to ten innings with ten Ks and two saves.

About Shawn Childs View All Articles
Shawn Childs has been a high stakes Fantasy baseball and football player since 2004 where he had success in his first season (three titles and $25,000 in winnings). In early years of the high stakes market in Fantasy baseball, he was ahead of the curve in player evaluation, draft value, and free agent bidding setting up four top-five finishes in the National Fantasy Baseball Championship. He has four AL-only Auction titles, one NL-only title, and five Main Event titles plus an overall title in 2012 at RTFBC (netted $10,000). This success led to an induction into the NFBC Baseball Hall of Fame. His success in the high stakes market led to a career in providing Fantasy Baseball and Fantasy Football content. On the football side, he’s competed and won in all different formats – auctions, draft championship, main events, and high-dollar leagues. He won 2nd place overall in the 2014 Most Accurate Salary Cap Expert contest at FantasyPros. As a dual-sport player, it was natural to transition to the daily games where he is a “swing for the fences type of guy.” Childs has appeared in one FanDuel NFL Live Final and one DraftKings NFL Live Final, a season-ending tournament which led to a couple of chances to win over $1,000,000.
