Waiver Wire Wednesday
Baker Mayfield—Mayfield is the real deal, and he is well on his way to becoming a top NFL QB. His accuracy is uncanny, and he has more mobility than people realize. He can give the Browns the same spark this season that Jimmy G gave the 49ers last season. Pay up for him in FAAB if he is still available.
C.J. Beathard—Speaking of Jimmy G, Beathard will be the new QB now that Jimmy is out for the season. The good news is this: Kyle Shanahan hand-picked Beathard at last year’s draft to be the 49ers QB of the future. It was only due to the Jimmy G trade that Beathard lost his job. He’s more mobile than you think, and he could put up decent Fantasy numbers in what should be weekly garbage time.
Josh Rosen—Can Rosen provide the same spark for the Cardinals that Mayfield did for the Browns? The Cardinals are banking on it. Rosen is going to make some great throws, and he’s also going to get picked about 2-3 times per game. Overall, I expect the good to outweigh the bad and he will be a decent play most weeks.
Ryan Tannehill—Just. Play. Tannehill. Ok, maybe not, but Tannehill has been much better than people expected. The problem is that Gase would prefer not to put the game in his hands, so his numbers will never appear gaudy. That said, he won’t kill you most weeks.
Josh Allen—Allen has been a shock thus far, even leading the Bills to a victory against the fearsome Vikings. Sadly, Allen is a solid young QB who lacks offensive skill players around him. As his confidence grows, I expect that his garbage time production will improve as well.
