Fantasy Baseball: Week 24 Closer Depth Chart

Senior Expert Shawn Childs provides his weekly, color-coded closer depth chart to help you win your Fantasy Baseball leagues!

Arizona Diamondbacks

Brad Boxberger hasn’t been sharp over his last five games (four runs and six baserunners over 3.2 innings with five Ks) leading to three saves, a blown save, and one loss. Boxberger is 31-for-37 in saves conversions with a fading ERA (3.80). Archie Bradley struggled over his last 15 games (6.07 ERA and 1.50 WHIP over 13.1 innings with 15 Ks) to push him further away from saves. Yoshihisa Hirano has 30 holds on the year while posting a 0.77 ERA over his last 11.2 innings with eight Ks. He is the next option for saves in Arizona as the season moves into September.

Detroit Tigers

Shane Greene struggled in three of his last five games (seven runs and 12 baserunners over three innings with five Ks) leading to two blown saves in three chances. Greene blew 28 of 33 saves in 2018 with a fading ERA (4.72). Over his first 23 innings in the majors, Victor Alcantara has a 2.74 ERA and 17 Ks. Based on the direction of Greene, Alcantara may get some save chances late in the year for the Tigers. Alex Wilson didn’t give up a run over his last 4.2 innings with five Ks.

Kansas City Royals

Wily Peralta struggled in his last two games (two runs, six runners, and two home runs over 1.1 innings), but he still hasn’t blown a save in his eight tries. Jake Newberry has a 3.18 ERA over his first 5.2 innings in the majors with four Ks. Look for Newberry to get some save chances late in the year. Tim Hill threw the ball well over his last 9.2 innings (one run and nine baserunners with nine Ks).

Miami Marlins

Drew Steckenrider doesn’t look closer-worthy over his last five games (16.20 ERA and 2.70 WHIP over 3.1 innings with four Ks and two saves). Kyle Barraclough continues to pitch like he’s not healthy. After tossing two shutout innings after a DL stint, the Blue Jays beat him for three and three baserunners over one-third of an inning with one K. Adam Conley has a 9.72 ERA over his last 8.1 innings with three Ks, two losses, and two blown saves.

New York Mets

Over his last 12 games, Robert Gsellman has a 2.31 ERA over 11.2 innings with nine Ks and five saves. He did struggle in two of his last three games (three runs and four baserunners over two innings with one). Drew Smith has a 2.55 ERA over 17.2 innings with 19 Ks while turning in a bad outing on August 31st (two runs and four baserunners) when he failed to record an out. Jerry Blevins has 1.54 ERA over his last 11.2 innings with 14 Ks.

New York Yankees

David Robertson didn’t allow a run over 11.2 innings in August with 15 Ks and three saves. He remains the top choice for saves for the Yankees with Aroldis Chapman on the DL. Dellin Betances has a 4.91 ERA over his last 7.1 innings with 13 Ks, two saves, and one blown save. Betances was on a path to close before he allowed a pair of HRs to the Tigers on August 30th. Zach Britton struggled in four of his last nine games, which led to a 4.66 ERA and 1.45 WHIP over 9.2 innings with six Ks.
